Vials are chosen by diameter, height, thread finish, and other parameters. Selection also depends on analysis type, analytical platform, and sample availability. Although 2mL vials are the most common, vials are available with capacities from 15 to 60μL. Autosampler vials are usually made from clear or amber glass, both of which are highly inert.

PTFE-H (Polytetrafluoroethylene) Johnson Test Papers’ hydrophilic PTFE syringe filters use special hydrophilic PTFE membrane as the filter medium. This material has maximum chemical and pH resistance and is visually clear when wet with water. The PTFE-H syringe filter is a versatile filter for aqueous and aggressive organic solvent based solutions and especially ideal for HPLC operation.
A pre-slit septum is an ideal choice in applications requiring 20% or more of the sample injection each time from the vial so that suction is avoided. The slit allows ambient gas to equalize the gas in the vial so that a vacuum is not created in the vial from the tight seal around the needle. If coring or clogging from a narrow needle or needle deflection from highly durable septa material is a concern, then choosing a pre-slit septum is a better choice.
