This septum provides chromatographic characteristics similar to that of a septum without a slit, except that the ability to withstand exposure to aggressive solvents is slightly lessened. Pre-slit septa are highly recommended for autosamplers with thin gauge needles or higher volume injections where a vacuum creation in the vial can be an issue.
Screw top vials (volume 2 mL, clear glass, O.D. × H. 12 mm × 32 mm) are used on many autosamplers with a standard opening of 4.6 mm. The threads on the standard vials are 8-425. The phenolic cap is autoclavable and it can withstand the temperature up to 149° C. The red PTFE/white silicone septum is sized to fit screw top vials.
